Concussion is the most common sports-related head injury, with football players having the highest rate among male high-school athletes.
However, research on the biomechanics of football-related head impacts traditionally has concentrated on the collegiate level.
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center said July 18 that its scientists had come up with a new way of tracking the cumulative effect of impacts to the head incurred by football players. Their research involved 40 Reagan High School players during the 2012 season. A similar number are being observed this season.
