Connecticut Athletic Trainers’ Association and Sport Safety International Partner to Offer Concussion Education

Connecticut Athletic Trainers’ Association releases interactive online concussion education for all involved along the concussion continuum.

July 28, 2011—The Connecticut Athletic Trainers’ Association (CATA), a leading resource in concussion education for health care professionals, athletes, coaches and parents, announced today it has forged a relationship with Sport Safety International; , a medical consulting firm that specializes in providing expert advice in the area of sport safety and injury prevention, to help introduce “Concussion Wise™” an online concussion education program designed for athletic trainers, coaches, parents, athletes and other health care professionals.  The program will be made available immediately.

ditionally the course is designed to provide help provide an understanding key point of concussion legislation in Connecticut.

“The demand for concussion education for the people along the concussion continuum has been accelerating over recent months,” said Vicky Graham, CATA President. “As an organization that fully supports Connecticut Public Act 10-62 (the Connecticut Concussion Act) and one of the leading resources in concussion education, it was important to the CATA to provide to our membership as well the public and other healthcare providers access to this comprehensive concussion online learning opportunity.”

Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers’ Society releases interactive online concussion education for all involved along the concussion continuum.

November 4, 2011—As the high school football season heads into the playoff stretch and upcoming winter sports season begins The Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers’ Society (PATS), announced today that it has partnered with Sport Safety International;  a medical consulting firm that specializes in providing expert advice in the area of sport safety and injury prevention, to help introduce “Concussion Wise™” an online concussion education program designed for athletic trainers, coaches, parents, athletes and other health care professionals.  The program is available immediately.

The partnership coincides with the recent Pennsylvania Senate concurring on SB200, an act establishing standards for managing concussions and traumatic brain injuries to student-athletes; assigning duties to the Department of Health and the Department of Education; and imposing penalties. “The importance of SB 200 is that it helps in the recognition that concussions are serious brain injuries amongst  coaches, athletes, and parents,” stated Greg Janik PATS President.

While focusing on the latest scientific and evidence based research of concussion education, prevention and management, “Concussion Wise™” is designed to meet the educational needs of athletic trainers, coaches, parents, athletes and other health care providers throughout the nation.

According to Janik, “The Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers’ Society is excited to be able to offer this quality educational program, as it provides an opportunity for everyone who is involved in concussion management to be educated with a quality course.”  “As an organization that prides itself on protecting athletes, it was important to PATS to partner with Sport Safety International to provide this comprehensive concussion learning opportunity”, continued Janik.

Colorado Athletic Trainers’ Association and Sports Safety International Team Up on Concussion Education

 Partnership to offer online concussion education for all levels announced at National Athletic Trainers’ Association Annual Meeting.

ST. LOUIS June 28, 2012—Colorado Athletic Trainers’ Association President  Coey Oshikoya and Sports Safety International Executive Director Dr. Robb Rehberg announced an agreement at the National Athletic Trainers’ Association to offer “ConcussionWise ™” an online concussion education program designed for coaches, parents, athletes, as well as athletic trainers and other health care providers.

Over 300,000 sports and recreational related concussions occur in the United States each year and 140,000 of these occur in high school athletes.  Concussions account for nearly 10% of all high school sports injuries.  Sports related concussions are frequently missed or not managed properly.

Coaches, parents, athletes, athletic trainers and other medical personnel should be active participants in the educational process and be able to properly recognize the signs and symptoms and the appropriate management of concussions. The course focuses on the latest scientific and evidence based research of concussion education, prevention and management.  It covers, amongst other things, awareness, preparedness and prevention. Upon successful completion of any of the courses the participants will receive a certificate.

“The Colorado Athletic Trainers’ Association is proud to announce our partnership with Sport Safety International and our capability to provide this education to the Colorado sports community” stated Oshikoya. “This education program helps support the concussion law sign by Governor Hickenlooper and enacted into law in January, 2012.
